A really nice course in a really beautiful and peaceful place. I m a beginner, i did 8 days and i will not denied that it was hard. But it worth it !
Don’t expect a lot of guidance. But just following the steps of the monk with determination and it will pay, at least it payed for me. But of course you will need more time if you « only » meditate 2-3 hours a day. You have to disciplined yourself, no one will come to tell you to meditate. Following the rules (no phone, no talk, no book, no writing, ..) help a lot.
The teacher is a exemple of joy and peace in himself. Everyday, egal if it’s 5AM or 6PM he still have the same energy and the same joy to share his advices like if it was the first day. Will definitely come back if i want to increase my practice.

I did a 7-day meditation course here, and the whole time I kept thinking—what makes a good meditation course? As beginners, we’re really just looking for someone who can answer our questions and give us some guidance. We want a bit of back-and-forth, not just being told how many hours to meditate each day.
I can deal with dirty bathrooms and bland food, but I just can’t accept a meditation course where there’s no real communication—just someone talking at you, not with you.

We did the short 5 day silent meditation course which initially was difficult both physically and mentally. It got better as it went along. The meditation is very independent and self directed. A morning and evening session with the Teacher and the rest of the time you are on your own. Some like it, some don't. Very serious environment, minimal eye contact and almost no one ever smiled. Scenery was beautiful and sunrise and sunset were great.
On the downside, the place is dire need of both a renovation and a deep clean. Doors were falling apart, windows and bathrooms were dirty and I hazard to guess when the last time the blankets, sheets or pillows were cleaned. Very surprising since most of the temples in Chiang Mai are very clean. It appears no one is responsible for maintaining the place and garbage bins were full from the date of arrival until the day we departed. Food was ultra basic and heavy on the Maggi sauce.
I would go to another mediation retreat but not here.
